Essential Checklist for Studying AbroadCollege students have very busy schedules, and many of them struggle to balance classes, homework, and social life and have to purchase essays online in order to find time to do everything that they want and enjoy their life. That’s why we have created a study abroad checklist that will help you stay organized as you prepare for your departure.

  • Apply for a passport and visa, if needed. If you have a passport, make sure it will remain valid during your travels. Check the visa regulations for the country you want to study and contact the embassy to apply for a student visa if you need one.
  • Apply for the International Student Identity Card because it will help you get discounts on different products and services around the world, for example, rail passes, movie tickets, travel insurance.
  • Find out if you are eligible for an international student scholarship to get additional funding for your studies.
  • Buy travel insurance that will cover the costs of stolen or lost items. Purchase medical insurance that will cover the costs of treatment if you fall ill as well.
  • Make a list of expenses and include everything from accommodation to daily entertainment and food costs. Make sure you have enough money that can be easily accessed during your travel. Don’t rely solely on cash in local currency. Apply for a credit card that can be used all over the world, for example, Mastercard, Visa or American Express.
  • Make several copies of all your important documents (passport, traveler’s checks, student ID, credit cards, and driver’s license). Leave one copy of them with your family, put one in your checked bag, and leave the last copy in your carry-on.
  • Attend your doctor for a full medical check-up, arrange a dental check-up, and get immunizations and vaccinations if needed. Keep your medical record with you.
  • Make a packing list and buy all the necessary items.
  • Create an emergency contact list and plans. Make sure you have physical and email addresses and phone numbers of everyone you might need to contact. Leave the same information with your close friend or parents.
  • Learn about the host country’s language and culture. Read books and travel guides to learn about customs, traditions, culture, food, and climate. Watch films and listen to music. Explore websites like Lonely Planet or Trip Advisor. Start learning a language on Duolingo, listen to podcasts in your target language, or take an evening course.
  • Look into housing options and find a good place to live in your host country.
  • Start packing for your trip. Don’t take a lot of clothes with you. Make sure you can carry all your things easily on your own. Research the weather and take into account your future activities to decide what types of clothes you will need. Don’t forget to take strong walking shoes with you – you will need them when you start exploring new places in your study abroad destination.
  • Find out if you will be able to use your cell phone abroad. Update your cell phone plan or buy a new one that will work in your host country. Download useful mobile apps. Buy power adapters and voltage converters.
  • Buy flight tickets. The easiest way to do it is to book them online. Use Student identity Card when booking your flight to get a discount.
  • Pack your carry-on bag and include your passport, credit cards, tickets, other documents and valuables, cash, a change of clothes, emergency contact information, copies of your documents, and basic toiletries.
  • Research means of travel in your study abroad destination. Using the internet, you can easily compare the prices for transportation all over the world. Search for great deals to ensure that you will be able to save money when exploring your host country.

When you arrive in your host country, seize every opportunity to go out, explore the city, try new things, and meet new people to get an authentic cultural experience. Good luck!
